HOW TO CLEAN YOUR DIRTY WOOD

Before cleaning any furniture, check the product label to be sure it's safe for the sort of wood you have. Then, test it on a tiny, unnoticed area to be sure it does not cause any damage.

Step 1. Mix oil soap with water. . Wipe down the furniture with a clean towel and the soapy mixture. Then, using clean water, wash away any soapy residue. Remove any extra water as soon as possible with dry cloth.

Step 2. Rub a small amount of Vaseline or mayonnaise on top to rehydrate the wood from any water spots or water damage. Allow it to sit for up to 24 hours. Wipe clean to expose a more even wood tone on the surface of the furniture.

Step 3. Clean up any Vaseline residue using Murphy's Oil Soap before moving to the next step.

Step 4. Wipe down the wood furniture with wood furniture polish with  a new clean cloth. Pay close attention to any scrapes or dings to ensure they are covered. Remove any excess polish with a clean cloth.

Step 5. If the hardware on your furniture is dirty, you may clean it using an old toothbrush dipped in warm water. Allow to dry after rinsing. After that, reattach to your wood furniture.

FAQs

Is dishwashing liquid safe to use on wooden furniture?

Dishwashing liquid is an excellent cleaner for wood tables. A few drops of liquid dish soap on a cotton ball would be enough. After dipping the cotton ball in warm water, apply it to a tiny out-of-the-way piece or inconspicuous location.

What should you not clean wood with?

Neither vinegar nor baking soda should be used. Many do-it-yourself house cleaning methods call for the use of vinegar or baking soda, but these are the worst things you can do to your wood flooring. They actually harm and dull the polyurethane, which can lead to damage.

Does wood spoil in water?

Wood is a natural substance that can crack and mildew when exposed to water or excessive moisture without protection. Increased moisture content can cause wood to expand and shift. Watermarks on wooden furniture can also occur as a result of the wood treatment.
